Counselling in South London

Counselling and how it might help:

Individuals and Couples

To help you work out what is right for you I offer a free assessment which you can arrange by contacting me directly. This gives you a chance to make sure you get the right counsellor for you that you feel comfortable working with. It is important to be able to trust your therapist and working with you to develop a good alliance will be paramount for me as your counsellor.

I always feel that the process begins with self-compassion, understanding that we are all thrown into this life with no real choice about the context of our birth, parents, education and culture.  We stumble along trying to make the best of things and at different times get a chance to stop, an opportunity often precipitated by a crisis or life event, then to look at where we have come from and where we are going.  A rare moment to choose our own and possibly new direction.  These are the moments that give us a chance to live purposefully, to take back the control of our lives and determine for ourselves who and what we will be.  I love being a part of such moments, I seek them for myself and sharing clients' turning points of transformation is why and I do what I do and to be honest what sustains me in it more than anything else.

If these ideas are of interest I've expanded on them in a recent article on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/self-compassion-matt-reid-tacze and also included in the Articles page on this site.

I have helped a lot of people struggling with life and its many pressures and demands. I could also help you find a way forward with what may feel like impossible problems. I have worked with clients mainly in a general service, encountering all sorts of problems and working all kinds of developmental needs. As well as an array of experience in different settings I have also developed a very open, positive and non-judgemental approach that I think will make your experience of counselling a good one.

I have also practised in an addictions setting, managed and taught on a Diploma in Counselling and also worked in a bereavement service. I currently work with The Soke in Wimbledon, a counselling service run by a charity and I also work in private practice (situated in Herne Hill, near Camberwell, Brixton and East Dulwich).

As human beings we are essentially relational and the exploration of relationships in a person's life is the focus of the work I do. This can be troubling, fascinating, helpful, illuminating and deeply profound or all of these at different times. It is not an easy commitment but then nothing worthwhile ever really is and though counselling and therapy can be all of those things fundamentally it is here to help you overcome your problems and develop a more robust and rewarding sense of well-being.

The most important thing is the development of a therapeutic relationship that aids you the client to develop, heal and grow. I work from your expressed wishes with you to find the best way forward for you. I hope that we may soon work together.

I have worked with a broad range of issues and needs and am confident of being able to help you, please get in touch for a free assessment to see if we could work together.
